[Some time after their network conversation, the door to their shared dorm opens and Mabosstiff enters. Arven shuffles in after him, holding a huge bag of Pokemon food. Did he carry that thing all the way here? It's like twenty pounds.]
We're back.
[With a huff, he plops the bag down on his side of the room and flops onto his bed in short order.]
Phew!
[Much to Arven's chagrin, Mabosstiff wanders to Eli's side of the room to seek pets. This is starting to become a routine and Arven's less than pleased about it. But he's not about to stop his partner unless Eli starts having a problem with it.]
[ Eli's been waiting, seated on the edge of his own bed, when the two arrive. As soon as Mabosstiff makes a b-line straight for his side, he leans over to bury both hands in the dog's fur and ruffles it. ]
Did you have a good time going shopping? Eh?
[ Yeah, the chances of Eli ever having a problem with is will forever remain a big fat zero. ]
Some part of Celeste isn't expecting Eli to actually run to meet up with him, and yet... there he is. Running down the street. The impulse to hide and make things more difficult is high, but ultimately sticking around in plain sight to watch him wins out.
He'll even offer a bit of a wave when he does make it! Wow!]
You're on time~
[Is he? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way it doesn't really matter.]
[ Run, run, run, run, run, aaaand... here! He's wooon the race! Only it was never a race, and he didn't need to run here. The thing is, he likes running. It made for a good challenge. Even though he's winded enough to lean over and steady himself with his hands against his upper thighs, needing a minute when, usually, he'd hardly even need a breather... ]
Ha, yeah? Am I?
[ Breath caught, he straightens up and gives Celeste a cocky little smirk. ]
I knew I'd make it.
[ He isn't going to check if that's true or not. Shh. ]
[Yeah, bending over to take a breather just puts you at the perfect height for hair-ruffles, Eli. You know. Like a puppy. Because we can't have nice things without being a menace.]
[ Pets!!! Only Eli is not, in fact, actually a dog, and so that earns some ire from him. ]
Hey, I'm not some little kid! [ Don't ruffle his hair?! Hello?! ] Geez, I came here to ask you something serious, at least act like it...
[ Anyway, huffing and puffing aside, he'll pause to look around to ensure no one else from the dorms is lurking nearby. No one he can see, at least. ]
It's just... I don't know how things will shake out when the moon's full. I have a pendant that usually keeps me from changing, but that shit relies on magic, and it ain't got any anymore.
[Hell yeah, pets!! Mabosstiff happily wags his tail and barks in response to Eli's question. Sounds like he's grateful for the opportunity to go out for walkies more than anything.
Arven rolls his eyes at being ignored and mutters something to himself, but he doesn't interrupt until the petting session is over. This is out of respect for Mabosstiff more than anything, mind you!!]
[ Aw, Arven, don't be jealous. Just be glad that the topic Eli has to broach here is more critical than poking fun at his roommate for finding this entire interaction annoying; he may have even offered Arven pets to make things fair... and then laughed his ass off at whatever the reaction to that may have been.
But luck is on Arven's side today. None of that happens. He merely finishes ruffling Mabosstiff's ears, then straightens up and sets his gaze on Arven instead. That grin he had for his doggy friend fades away to something much more grim. ]
First, I need to know how much I got to explain here. Does your world have lycanthropy? Or, y'know, werewolves and shit like that?
[He is close enough to a dog that he will get pets until he just accepts it's a thing. Then he won't. Such is life.]
Ah, you just looked so excited that you made it~
[But okay, yes, he can be serious.]
And with my powers gone, I can't charm or scare you, should you change... But I am willing to make a plan with you, regardless. What happens when you change?
[ Make him accept pets, then deprive him of them? Why, why are vampires so cruel? ]
Apart from all the fur? A full moon makes anyone with lycanthropy go feral, and in a nasty way, too. I dunno, maybe rabid is a better word for it. It's how the demons spread it fast after infecting the first few since, assuming I do change, I'd start going after people.
[ It is, however, a pretty big if. That's the silver lining here. If everything else about his lycanthropy has been suppressed, maybe that has, too. ]
It shouldn't spread to someone who's already dealing with something else, though. Y'know, like what vampires got.
[It's mostly just Celeste. Depriving Eli of pets just might get him to ask for them, you see, and that'd be worth depriving himself of the frustrated face he made when getting them in the first place.]
And even without most of my own powers, I'd wager I'm still more sturdy than most here.
[You know, considering all the teens and idols.]
Or capable of leading you on a merry chase, at the very least... We ought to consider going to that other world, too, for a while, just in case.
What the hell? Do you have a species of Pokemon for everything?
[ Yeah, if he were a Pokemon, he would totally be a Lycanroc. This is not a thought he's having right now, but it is true. ]
Right, so. Just think of lycanthropy as an illness that gets spread through biting. I got that. It's why I look so weird. Folks with it can lose control under a full moon and try to spread it further by attacking people.
Yeah. You're the safest bet, and you already got an idea of what I am. The others... I just know how normal folks react to this shit.
[ Back home, anyway. Here, he might be surprised, but deep down, the very thought makes him nervous. Who in their right mind walks straight into more rejection when they've already had so much in their life? ]
Hitting up the other world is a good idea, but I need to know, do you think you'd be able to kill me if you had to? If I still managed to be a danger to anyone else?

[But as Eli goes on to describe lycanthropy, it does put an eerier light on the Pokemon species. The Pokemon doesn't go around spreading disease, but there's definitely a variant of them that goes wild in the moonlight.
But the implications about the Pokemon species aren't Arven's biggest concern right now. He wasn't impressed the first time Eli made a comment about being a dog, but from the way his roomie is talking now, it's all actually legit?]
W-Wait, so...you've got a wolf disease? How'd that even spread to people? And that's why you were researching the full moons. Oh, geez...
[Arven starts rambling under his breath. He's not at the level of really freaking out, only because Eli made it sound like he wouldn't be around to attack him. But that doesn't ensure it won't happen........]
[ Looks like he's already freaking out over it. Eli guesses he should have guessed that would happen, but it's always disappointing when it happens. Every time... He sighs quietly and drops his attention back down to Mabosstiff. He'll resume petting the Pokemon. ]
It's only spreadable when I'm flipping out under a full moon, so even if I bit you right now, you'd be fine. So chill.
[ As for how? Well... ]
My world got invaded by armies of demons from some other plane of existence about fifteen years back. Some of them could spread things like that. So, that's how. Anyway, I'm already asking someone who should be immune to stay with me when the full moon happens in case I do go through it. It won't be here, though, like I already told you.
[At least Mabosstiff seems to be taking it better than his trainer. He doesn't budge from his spot, content to have more pets while also providing Eli with some emotional support.
For his part, Arven does settle when he's called out.]
Ah, r-right... Sorry.
[And he does sound genuine about it. Just taking a moment to consider how it must feel to even have this lycanthropy thing sucks.
Demons, though... It's tough to picture what constitutes a demon. Maybe Eli means something like the dog that came out of him, since it freaked him out so much. An unknown Pokemon from another plane... Yeah, he can start to see it. Almost too clearly for comfort.]
Well...it's good that you've got backup, if it does happen.
[ Now he just has to hope Celeste is willing to werewolfsit for a night. At least petting Mabosstiff is actually very comforting. Part of the reason he likes dogs as much as he does; they've always liked him back, no questions asked. .]
Anyway, if I don't make it back, feel free to have my stuff. It ain't a lot but it's not like I'll be using it.
[ Oh, also that. He says it like it's completely normal, no stress or worry, just a fact. ]
What, lycanthropy? Nah, that won't kill me directly.
[ Pat, pat, there there, Mabosstiff. ]
But if I get loose while like that, it's better to off me than allow me to attack anyone. This world ain't set up to deal with something like this spreading.
I think it probably won't. I've lost most of the other stuff I get from my condition, so maybe that's been suppressed, too? At least, that's what I'm hoping. I just. I gotta be sure.
[ He doesn't want to die either, dude. Thoughts and pokeprayers, please. ]
[Normally, Arven wouldn't think too much about what his roomie is getting up to. But it's gotten late and Eli's still not back for the night. Given what's happened recently, Arven can't help but worry a little.
Okay, worry a lot. But he'd never admit it aloud.
Fortunately, he's able to track Eli down with the help of Mabosstiff's trusty nose. The roof isn't where he expected to find him, but at least he's here and...seemingly safe?]
There you are. [Mabosstiff reaches Eli before Arven does, but he's not far behind.] What're you doing up here this late?
