[ Argenti would say that it is because he has been raised well on how to pay genuine compliments from the heart, but there is very much a wealth of difference between doing so with empty flattery, and warmth that can resound in every word. Not everyone can detect the difference, even, but at the same time?
It is something that can be spot easily enough; or so Argenti has always thought. Such as it is, he feels his face warm a little when Fray points it out. ]
I suppose with you it feels...simple.
[ He raises a hand to lightly brush against the back of that head, even lightly petting the ears a tad. ]
I shall take it a great compliment that I've made you momentarily speechless! But, we are the same. I imagine Eorzea shall have its challenges, and we've still yet to conquer the one that has been thrown at our feet so to speak by being brought here. Though I feel as if that too is also a given.
It has not been a road of simplicity and we are bound to need to carefully navigate the complexities - known and unknown - but I have had faith that we will come out all the more splendidly beautiful for it, together as one.
[That gets a soft purr from him and Fray leans into the contact. Who knew he would enjoy physical affection this much? He certainly didn't.]
I was so angry at being brought here initially. Yet so much has changed in so short a time that I can hardly imagine my life as it was. It was... lonely, only having V'rhas to rely on.
I'm glad you're here, my beloved. I can scarcely imagine where I'd be without you. We may have quite the road ahead of us, but I've no doubts we'll be able to conquer whatever challenges come our way.
[ Sometimes, one can certainly find out just how much! Argenti will happily continue to teach Fray how pleasant it is. ]
It makes a difference in having those you can rely on in far more numbers indeed. While I have no doubts that he is a man in which you can count on in your time of need, when you're so focused on his safety, when you cannot afford to have more than a singular person be there to rely on, it becomes difficult. After all, oftentimes, at that point I believe it becomes reasonable to not want to overburden that one person.
...But, I imagine the very same. It may sound silly, and yet everything that you did had such a great impact that in some ways I cannot place it all into words. Though you must understand that I desire to do my utmost best to do so.
Also, while I'm here, would you also be open to me trying out styling your hair differently as I mentioned?
[ Argenti asks as his fingers continue to pet those ears, gently, and softly. ]
And you can tell me more about this Eorzea of yours? For example, the places with the most beautiful sights, or where you prefer to go to most. As well as more about the wildlife.
[Fray nods at the words; Argenti's absolutely right. He hadn't realized how much of a burden he was placing on V'rhas, but now that he can take a step back and look at the situation... well, he was being quite overbearing in his attempts to protect him. It's good that he's had the opportunity to stop and consider his actions, Fray thinks.]
Ah, of course - here, let's take a seat.
[He nuzzles against Argenti's hand for a moment before pulling back, leading the other man to his bed and sitting down. Fray frees his hair from the short braid he keeps it in, letting it fall down to his upper back.]
Go ahead and do whatever you'd like; I trust I'll enjoy your work.
[Both because it's Argenti doing it and because it will look different from V'rhas's usual style.
As for Eorzea...]
Eorzea is composed of three city-states. Gridania is located in a forest, the Black Shroud, with many kinds of interesting wildlife and monsters alike. There are beings that govern all life in the forest called the Elementals; the Gridanians pay heed to these beings above all else.
Ul'dah is located near a desert in Thanalan; their wildlife reflects this as well. Theirs is a city of opulence and riches, though there is a great divide between the rich and poor. Refugees from the nearby nation of Ala Mhigo struggle to find work and places to live, while the rich control much of the city and Thanalan itself.
Limsa Lominsa is the third capitol; it is a port city that sees trade from several other nations across the sea. The isle of Vylbrand likewise has its own unique share of beasts and monsters, and the Lominsans have often fought with their neighbors over land on the isle, occasionally encroaching into the territories of others.
As for the places with the most beautiful sights... Eorzea is blessed in that you can find gorgeous views anywhere in within the three city-states and the surrounding areas. There is the Burning Wall in Thanalan, a place where the fallen moon Dalamud struck the earth leaving fascinating crystal-like structures behind. Mor Dhona is similar, though right on the site of Dalamud's crash, so it is even more of a strange and otherworldly sight. Deep within the forests of the Black Shroud are sights most remarkable in the Sylphs' territory... and the Sahagin of Vylbrand likewise have incredible structures and unique-looking lands.
[Fray's voice remains even all throughout his explanation, but there's no denying that there's a certain fondness there, one that isn't often present in his words. Eorzea, for all its many flaws, is still home. It is still a land of beauty and mystery that he wants to return to explore further. There's so much he doesn't know about his own home and talking about it makes him feel... homesick, he supposes. A strange feeling he's never really experienced before, but one that makes sense given how far away he is from all that's familiar.]
Argenti allows himself to be led to the bed and carefully settles himself down - Fray undoing his braid allows him even freer reign to do something with it. So, there are some beginning options now. Something of a variation of this or the original cute braid set. Fray's hairstyle fate is in the hands of Aeons (Idrila, maybe not derogatory this time) or applicable gods...but, fortunately Argenti is skilled at hair styles - beautiful ones, as it were. He considers this a necessary skill as a Knight of Beauty. As he sets upon his work, calm as ever as he places himself behind the other red head, his fingers are gentle as he also listens. Fortunately, he also has so much splendid hair to work with. ]
It sounds incredible, and beautiful, for most of that you've describe. Though...
...Like any other world there is so much wonder and challenges to behold, but that too only adds to the Beauty of even a place I have yet to bear true witness to. I do wonder about so much about them - the rich history of those places that you've mentioned.
Can you tell me more about these Elementals, and also why exactly this place in 'Thanalan' is called the Burning wall?
[ It sounds like it may have a curious history - things being what they are, though, Argenti does recognize the undercurrent of fond that slips into his tone. It is beautiful, not unlike a soft melody spoken on a spring day. Ah, look at him, weaving poetry in his own head. He can't help it, though. ]
[These are both so cute... Take your pick, Argenti! Fray will appreciate it either way.]
The Elementals are rather mysterious; V'rhas hasn't even met them, though he's dealt with the leaders of the rest of the city-states.
[Why the Elementals haven't actually been addressed in the main story quests is something I will never understand tbqh.]
They speak through the ones they have chosen, their Padjals. One of the Padjals is the leader of Gridania, Kan-E-Senna. She is a kind woman, determined to help her people and keep them safe from harm, and she mediates between the Elementals and her people quite well. Still, the Elementals are long-lived and have not forgotten the slights against them from the past, something that has caused problems in the present. There was a time when Ala Mhigan refugees were refused aid because of the Elementals' whims, despite the fact that these Ala Mhigans were not the same who had warred with the Elemantals' lands in the past.
Thanalan is the area Ul'dah is located in. As for the Burning Wall...
[Why is it called the Burning Wall...? Hmm. Give him a moment to think.]
I'm afraid I don't know how it got its name. It would seem we'll have to discover that together, won't we?
[Something small and silly to look forward to, but certainly worth the trip to Thanalan. After all, there's much he'll have to show Argenti once they return to Eorzea.]
[ Excellent, we are going with the original cutie style for real, then!
Also, incredible. The Elementals are clearly just rude shy beings or something ridiculous like that. ]
...I see. It sounds like they are quite mysterious beings indeed. Ones that apparently can hold a grudge for quite a long time. Though, I hope that they can one day let go of such negative feelings. It does no one any good to hold onto such ugly feelings for long - but it is very common in long-lived species at times. These sound like the very same kind of beings, even if different from what I have heard of for certain.
[ None of the long-lived species in the universe he's met or heard of thus far have any 'chosen' like the Padjals or anything like that. ]
We could indeed. I would love to take pictures of us near it as well and of the structure itself. After all, I'm certain it is as beautiful as you describe.
[ More background images to add to his phone... ]
...I am glad that the moon falling did not disrupt the entirety of the world, though. I am not certain how everything remained in tact, but I imagine that was due to something quite miraculous.
Mm, I'd like that. Seeing all these places again with fresh eyes would help me appreciate them more, I think.
[Eorzea is truly beautiful, but seeing it all with someone who has never experienced these sights before is a fantastic way to remember what it is that V'rhas loved about this place to begin with. He wouldn't have fought so hard to save Eorzea if he didn't love it.]
It was quite literally a miracle that saved everyone, though that was more because of Bahamut than the fall of Dalamud.
[...Okay, he might have to back up for this one.]
Five years ago, during the Battle of Carteneau against the Empire, the lesser moon Dalamud began its descent. The Empire had caused it to fall, but as it descended, it cracked open to reveal an elder Primal, Bahamut. This fearsome dragon threatened to destroy Eorzea and the rest of the world - and was only stopped by a man named Louisoix, who sacrificed his life in order to gain help from the Twelve to put a stop to Bahamut.
[That's the short version of events. There's actually a lot more to it than that, but we're not going to get into the Coils of Bahamut questline today!!]
I cannot truly stress how excited I am to behold such sights with you.
[ In a way his presence will doubtless add an element of novel to it - Argenti is still too humble to even suggest such a thing aloud since some habits do die a bit hard. But, it is something that comes across his mind immediately with feeling.
That being said, it appears that it indeed had been a strike of divine blessing that allowed all to still be well. ]
Of all the catastrophes I have heard of, I can say that a country causing an entire planet's moon is surprisingly a new one. It sounds something out of an old tale of disaster averted indeed. But, I doubt a tale placed together could compare to the real incident you have told as I have certainly never heard of an entire being hidden inside a moon of all places.
What an exciting world you truly live in indeed. Especially since that happened so recent!
I would have thought it'd be something that would occur in the past.
[ Just five years ago and that kind of madness; not that it deters him any. Other people might find it reasonably scary, though. ]
I do recall you having mentioning the Twelve before, however. Those are the gods that should be typically watching over the world, yes?
[Fray nods at that. He hadn't really been aware of it before this conversation, but yes, he truly does miss home. It will be nice to return; and nicer still to bring his beloved with him.]
Eorzea has been through quite a lot in recent times...
[This isn't even getting started on the Primal threats, the near-invasion from the XIVth legion, or the Dragonsong War.]
That is correct. The Twelve are the deities those in Eorzea worship, though some of the lands surrounding likewise pay homage to them. The Ala Mhigans worship Rhalgr, the Destroyer, for instance. Ishgardians worship Halone, the Fury. Each city-state of Eorzea is governed by one of the gods as well: Nophica, the Matron, governs Gridania; Nald'thal, the Traders, govern Ul'dah, and Llymlaen, the Navigator, governs Limsa Lominsa.
Of course, not everyone worships the Twelve. It varies from person to person and culture to culture. V'rhas is not particularly religious, although Seekers of the Sun - his tribe of Miqo'te - traditionally worship Azeyma, the Warden.
[ ...Eorzea never is going to be boring indeed. For some, even hearing this might be pretty daunting.
But, he simply considers it a part of the world's rich history. And there is evidently far more waiting to be discovered. ]
...They truly do not sound all that dissimilar from Aeons in the slightest - only perhaps being concentrated so thoroughly on a singular world rather than having multiple worlds or places throughout the universe where their influence remains great.
You also do not strike me as religious, from what I recall last we spoke of these 'Twelve' and that was fairly on. Not that I blame you, of course. I firmly believe that everyone can and should be able to choose how freely they wish to distribute their faith. Whether it is in gods, Aeons, or whatever or whomever they so please.
It all truly continues to sound incredible - even with the challenges and unfamiliar aspects.
[ Finishing up the stylization just a bit, though he does hope to have a proper hair ornament for this someday. He hadn't managed to get one just yet, though... ]
Also another important question for my dearest Fray:
Which color would you say suits you the best? Black like your armor, or something else entirely?
[Fray nods (well as much as he can given the current position) at that. Indeed, there are similarities between the Aeons and the Twelve, and he certainly isn't religious at all.]
I've found such things to be... excessive, and in their excess they have hurt others.
[It's hard to think about worship of the Twelve when the people of Ishgard used it as an excuse to kill those they deemed "heretics"...]
Ah, black, yes. Though I suppose I don't mind dark blues or reds.
[He can't turn to look at Argenti, but that question does get him to ask:] Why do you ask?
[ It must sound almost unbelievable; perhaps foolish in a sense, given that Argenti worships fervently - still...? Maybe that has changed now in a way even if it remains deeply - his own Aeon, as a Knight of Beauty.
But, he has already heard what Fray has told of the horrors committed by those who worship some of the Twelve; he too knows the dangers of those who sink too far in twisted ways in their devotion to gods, to even Aeons. Even to his own Aeon, but to others as well.
For now, he does focus on the question, smiling to himself as he's moving along with what he's working at. ]
The reason that I ask, my dear, is because I hope to add a little ornament to your hair at some point - something that would suit you, of course. And I realized I did not know what colors you favored. It would be thoughtless if I were to simply assume just any would suit you, yes?
[Fray can't help the way he flushes at that, golden eyes flicking to some distant point on the wall, despite the fact that he's still turned away from Argenti anyway.]
I wouldn't mind if you did, you know. Though yes, I suppose something in my preferred colors would be nicer.
[ Argenti wishes he can see his beloved's face right about now...but, well! He thinks he's getting closer to finishing so he can show off his boyfriend's new hairstyle even to himself. ]
You are, as ever, rather sweet and unerringly kind to me, dearest.
But, I'm gladdened to hear it. I believe I am almost done - I think after which it'll deserve another picture taken, of course.
[Fray does so as asked, and when he's offered the phone to check his image, he blinks in surprise. Sure, he was expecting to look different - after all, Argenti spent quite a bit of time on his hair - but something about it looks so... foreign. He doesn't look like V'rhas. It's hard to look like him when he's wearing an expression he's never seen on the man, and harder still when his hair is done up in such a unique style.
So for a long moment, Fray is silent, just taking in the image. It's surreal. But that just makes it all the more apparent that he can take this appearance and make it his own.]
...I suppose I can't really argue with that. It looks amazing, Argenti.
[I look amazing might be the general sentiment here, but that's a little egotistical to say.]
[ Argenti waits with baited breath! He is holding in his excitement in to the maximum degree and trying not to grow too conceited or anything because there is the chance Fray still might not like the new look. Which is also his right!
But, he takes pride in his hairstyling skills - unsurprising, maybe, because he's a Knight of Beauty and everything. Still... ]
So, you're essentially stating that you look amazing?
[ A small tease even if Fray definitely had phrased it far less like that. But don't mind him leaning in to press a quick cheek kiss. ]
[ ...So, of course, when Argenti sees Fray's face turning red, he is thinking of calling him out on it!! Innocently, of course.
In fact, his mouth even opens up to say something, only for Fray to kiss him to shut him right up. How expertly timed indeed. He'll even wrap his arms around him, laughing lightly, and happily into the kiss, holding the other man close. The phone's been set aside for a second.
He's delighted by it, enough to let it linger to sweeten Fray's victory turning into it even. He'll be slowly pulling back only a little so their faces are still close to each other's. ]
...And here I thought you would have allowed me an opening in return.
[Being held this close, kissing the man he loves is almost akin to fighting the toughest battles, the ones that light his nerves on fire and threaten to risk consuming him whole - it's a whole different world off the battlefield, and one he's eager to explore. That feeling of joy persists and it's one Fray would be willing to chase to the ends of the earth, especially if it leads to Argenti's bright smile like this.]
Never. You know I don't like being teased.
[But it's said lightly, because he can acknowledge that he just keeps putting up with it, so clearly he doesn't hate it as much as he pretends to. With Argenti so close though, Fray can't really focus on the banter for long.]
...I truly am so happy with you. I would have never thought I could experience something like this, and yet... I am truly happy. Thank you, Argenti.
[ It is true about what they say here...love is a battlefield, and it is one that Argenti himself will happily share with Fray every single day of his life. There is a Beauty to it that can only be savored when he spends what time he has with Fray - such as this, hearing the jest fall from his beloved's lips with ease. He feels another gentle sound of merriment escape him, at that. ]
Alas...since I shall continue to tease you so.
But, it means so much to me that I can make you so happy. Your words of appreciation are just as beautiful as your expressions of joy.
[ He wishes to just simply kiss him again, hearing those words of gratitude filled with utmost love. So he presses their foreheads together and teasing presses another softer kiss, but shorter. ]
And you should know, that you too make me happy, my dearest.

It would be thoughtless if I were to simply assume just any would suit you, yes?
no subject
I wouldn't mind if you did, you know. Though yes, I suppose something in my preferred colors would be nicer.
no subject
You are, as ever, rather sweet and unerringly kind to me, dearest.
But, I'm gladdened to hear it. I believe I am almost done - I think after which it'll deserve another picture taken, of course.
no subject
[That gets a chuckle from him though, and Fray can't help but grin.]
I suppose I'll allow that, then. I am curious what you've decided on for me, after all.
no subject
When you say that, I can't disagree.
[ It's true, and then, with one finishing twirl of a hair, Argenti thinks he's more or less finished. ]
...Speaking of which, I've just finished. Do you wish to see how incredible you look?
no subject
[Do you want to snap a selfie of it to show him?]
no subject
It is always well-due praise. [ Wink. ] But, please turn around and face me.
[ Once Fray does, Argenti will snap a photo, and then show Fray immediately. ]
...Here! What do you think of your immense Beauty, my dearest one?
no subject
So for a long moment, Fray is silent, just taking in the image. It's surreal. But that just makes it all the more apparent that he can take this appearance and make it his own.]
...I suppose I can't really argue with that. It looks amazing, Argenti.
[I look amazing might be the general sentiment here, but that's a little egotistical to say.]
no subject
But, he takes pride in his hairstyling skills - unsurprising, maybe, because he's a Knight of Beauty and everything. Still... ]
So, you're essentially stating that you look amazing?
[ A small tease even if Fray definitely had phrased it far less like that. But don't mind him leaning in to press a quick cheek kiss. ]
no subject
Well. Yes, I suppose if you want to put it that bluntly. Though it is all thanks to your assistance, my beloved.
[Two can play at that game, though, so Fray leans in to kiss Argenti to shut him up to keep him from teasing!!]
no subject
In fact, his mouth even opens up to say something, only for Fray to kiss him to shut him right up. How expertly timed indeed. He'll even wrap his arms around him, laughing lightly, and happily into the kiss, holding the other man close. The phone's been set aside for a second.
He's delighted by it, enough to let it linger to sweeten Fray's victory turning into it even. He'll be slowly pulling back only a little so their faces are still close to each other's. ]
...And here I thought you would have allowed me an opening in return.
no subject
Thank you, Argenti.
no subject
Alas...since I shall continue to tease you so.
But, it means so much to me that I can make you so happy. Your words of appreciation are just as beautiful as your expressions of joy.
[ He wishes to just simply kiss him again, hearing those words of gratitude filled with utmost love. So he presses their foreheads together and teasing presses another softer kiss, but shorter. ]
And you should know, that you too make me happy, my dearest.
