Doesn't matter! It's also been a long time for Rutile—nearing a month without his broom has been tough. He misses the wind and the freedom—
But this is good enough!
He slams the gas and pushes forward, nudging past a hundred at last, now that he's gotten a handle of the controls.
But the excitement makes him almost miss his turn (5), throwing him a bit off while he has to readjust. Despite that, he does so with ease, as he slowly becomes one with his vehicle (11), quickly hopping back on course. Rutile might not be navigating perfectly, but at least he isn't losing sight of Argenti! He's right behind him!
One of the harsher bends in the road catches him by surprise again (3), so he leans far on his motorcycle. For a second, he's afraid he's going to fall over, so he does that thing where he puts his foot down, skimming on the pavement, to keep himself upright... It looks pretty cool, but his leg is probably going to hurt tomorrow.
Oh well! He'll do better next lap! He's gonna catch up! ]
It seems that the red head is someone who too is getting caught up in the moment - the wonderful feeling and breeze of a quick speed that involves tearing up the streets most certainly eclipsing anything resembling reasonable thinking. Said excitement keeps him focused, and he isn't speeding up thus far (15), before he realizes that there is a certain someone right behind him.
He doesn't seem content on speeding past 100 because even that's just far too dangerous, though his technique stays up to par (18), but this time with that upcoming bump, he also doesn't fair too great (9), needing to slow down a little bit.
Fortunately, no injuries on his end, though he does throw his head to look back again, catching Rutile's movement. Second lap complete! ]
I hope you're doing alright over there, my friend!
[ Someone (probably someone with airpods in) walks out into the street right in front of Rutile, and he narrowly misses them by swerving at the last second (4). He has to slow down, almost stop, and lets Argenti zoom ahead. The pedestrian seems fine, Rutile's fine, but he just answers Argenti's question anyway. ]
I'm okay!
[ Anyway! Close call!
He settles back in the saddle and zooms ahead, getting back up to speed in no time at all. He's getting a hang of the roads by now, and he manages the twists and turns with ease (16). With so much ease, in fact, that he's easily catching back up to him (15)—his mind calms, mapping out the space around him and anticipating obstacles before they come...
Even without his magic, the technique is still useful! ]
I'm catching up! [ He yells this in a playful, teasing threat. Does Argenti hear him?! ]
[ Argenti himself doesn't exactly encounter any further people-person distractions, but that doesn't mean there are others. Like for example, other vehicles that aren't behaving traffic laws, and he has to swerve around that (6), forcing him to slow down.
But he throws his head back to check back on Rutile and then look forward. He's glad to hear Rutile's doing just fine. ]
Good!
[ Though, there's a red light and he probably shouldn't break every law, so he hits the breaks (1), damn!
As for keeping speed, it would definitely be difficult for Argenti to keep his usual given what just happened, so Rutile absolutely is going to have an opportunity to claim a lap this time for his own (5) ]
It seems that you are! Perhaps I should not become so arrogant! The question might be is if you could keep up?
[ Though he says that, it appears it isn't with annoyance or anything like that...if anything, he feels plenty excited about the prospect! ]
Heheh, we'll see! [ Rutile, at least, slows down when he passes Argenti. Just to converse! ] Don't give up, Argenti!
[ He doesn't want this to be easy for either of them, because then what's the fun in that?
Anyway, Rutile slams on the gas again and zooms off (13), taking lap three for himself! Yippee!
That doesn't last super long, though. With more of the city layout in his mind, he decides to try and take a shortcut; he'll veer off the main road into a smaller one, only to encounter the dreaded stop sign (2). He'll exclaim out loud as he slows to a roll (but not a full stop, because he can be a little rascal too), and then zoom off towards the main road again. Never mind, not trying that anymore.
Because coming back to the main road means he has to wait to merge back in (7). It's slow going, but maybe he'll get his speed back... ]
Shit!
[ Maybe no one's around to hear him swear like this, either (don't tell Sunrise). ]
[ Argenti never is going to let the other man beat him so easily. It is just impossible! He immediately slams down on the space-gas (because who knows what's in there?) going practically at top speed again (15), since apparently Rutile taking a lap is a crime against humanity.
Whatever routes are ahead, Argenti takes care to nyoom past them even faster than before (16) to gain a really good lead right about now! Even if he's careful about pedestrians. Need to be cognizant of the people still, after all.
Maybe he heard Rutile's swear as he nyooms by, letting out a delicate, but audible sound of surprise. Oh my, maybe he has to tell Sunrise indeed!
...But, that doesn't mean what's ahead will be free of obstacles. Such as a pool of random water that helps in slowing him down and splashing people or other surroundings (1), which gets him an angry yell in turn. Oops. ]
[ Road rage, for the both of them? Perish the thought...
Once Rutile's back on the main roads, noting not to try that shortcut again, he puts the pedal to the metal and goes back to the speed he wants to be at. Around a hundred, perhaps? This can't be legal (but he doesn't know, he doesn't even have a license).
With the route mostly memorized, he weaves through the obstacles and along the roads with ease, at last feeling at home in the seat (20). It's a lot louder and more restrictive than a broom, but who cares! He'll take it!
His goal now is to catch up with Argenti again, at least get him back in sight. He zooms past the puddle and the angry, wet people (he doesn't notice them) and avoids slowing down and splashing them (13). There comes a tight turn ahead, and unbeknownst to Rutile he nails the drift pretty easily (16), tire screeching on asphalt.
Oh, he sees the red hair ahead! He may have lost out on this lap, but seeing his racing partner is a pretty good motivator. Time to up the speed, baby! ]
Argenti doesn't bother taking shortcuts, preferring the straight way ahead - it's served him well thus far, hasn't it? He's not slowing down for anything, speeding along ahead with ease until he has to suddenly navigate around... ]
Oh my!
[ ...A sudden flurry of walking ducks?! Oh no, he puts to almost a sudden stop so they can pass (4) because that would be too cruel to run over a mother duck and her ducklings!
After that he speeds up quickly, maintaining his previous speed at a decent clip (13)
...Only to have to swerve around a sudden parked car in the middle of the street! Rutile definitely has a good opportunity to make a comeback for sure. After all, he's needing to slow down more than a bit (6), how unfortunate! ]
Rutile is far enough behind Argenti that they're off the road by the time he gets to that spot, though he does see the stop. Huh. Wonder what that was for...
Still, he keeps good pace (10).
Despite his incredible round last time, there's more in the way this time. Rutile nearly hits the parked car (3) that Argenti had to deal with, and he has to slow down for a group of schoolkids who decided to start crossing the street without looking (3). ]
Wah!
[ Skidding to a slowdown—the kids screech and scamper the rest of the way. Jeez!
Zooming back off. Unfortunately, he didn't make up the distance, but maybe next lap! He'll get his revenge!! ]
[ Argenti is speeding along at a nice clip still, because apparently his skill as a racer is truly showing through - nothing too monumental, but definitely with expertise (12)
As for any further distractions, well, not much continues to dissuade the red-haired man, as he manages to weave around a stray dog that suddenly shot out into the street from its owner (11), without slowing down. ]
Oh dear! That was a close one!
[ What is with this city and its chaotic nonsense this race? Well, it's probably fine nothing much else is going on, and in fact...
Argenti checks back when he hears the screech from afar, slowing down a little (10), though definitely not enough so that it's detrimental. After checking that Rutile and the kids (so far in the distance by now???), he is keeping along. ]
Rutile looks up from his temporary slowdown and sees Argenti again. With somewhat of a marker for him to concentrate on, he leans forward and urges his motorized broom with wheels faster. Luckily for him, the roads are a straight shot and there isn't anything around threatening to interrupt his cruise (19)! He even makes it go vrrm to let Argenti know he's coming. Hehe.
The turns come up again and he realizes he might've gotten a little overconfident. Minus a few less-than-perfect turns he makes it through the winding streets with little incident (11).
Though when he gets back to the main stretch leading back to their start point, he realizes he forgot about that puddle (8). He soars straight through, a shower of water soaking the sidewalk beside it. The droplets catch on the sunlight and the rainbow is quite beautiful...but that's not what the soaked pedestrians are thinking about!
He has to slow down for a bit for that, but it's okay! Vrrm vrrm, here he comes! Has he caught up yet?! ]
[ Well, Argenti can hear the telltale sound of a vrrm quite a distance away, the sound reaching the Knight's ears right away, his lips turning upwards into a bright but excited smile. Hearing that Rutile dares to signal to him that he's coming is nothing but exhilarating - a challenge that feels delivered to his soul, and one that is equally received all the same.
Well, of course, Rutile will catch sight of Argenti through the rainbow - the red-haired man hearing the sound of the blond man's motorcycle catching up as he himself is forced to weave around some random orange cones. He has to slow down for this because there's more than one (8)
Though, he does shout: ]
My splendid and radiant friend, you must certainly be mistaken if you believe I shall let you catch up to me!
[ Argenti declares these words haughtily, revving the engine in turn before slamming his foot down on the pedal, speeding fiercely away (19) in a way that is certainly reckless! It definitely causes a passerby to lose their hat, even!
Look at this man, causing a ruckus wherever he goes. He'll even turn towards Rutile, giving a wave from afar, before looking forward again, continuing to speed onwards, weaving through traffic with ease and grace. It should be impossible at how fast he's going... but he manages with great finesse (17) ]
[ Rutile weaves through those orange cones with ease, and he catches up pretty quickly (15). He gets close enough to hear Argenti speak, even! ]
Hehe! [ He giggles at being called splendid and radiant? That's such a nice thing to say.
Rutile's not super competitive but it is inspiring. And right as he's about to rev his engine to keep pace, the ducks come back (2)?! He swerves, just narrowly missing the procession, only to just narrowly miss the barrier separating the sidewalk and the street (2). He comes to a stop and waves apologetically as people scramble, screaming... Oops?
It's almost comical at this point.
With a sigh, Rutile sets off again. He's fallen pretty far behind again already, but...he'll catch up! Nyoom! ]
[ Argenti himself is definitely a very competitive person when it comes to matters like racing, though he does hear Rutile's giggle to confirm that he heard him say those very words. Playful enough for certain, and an indication that the other man is verily enjoying himself.
...To say the least of the fact that this red head is very much enjoying himself indeed.
Though he certainly isn't anticipating the ducklings to strike back where Rutile's concerned! That only assures he's claiming another lap, though.
But, the race is far from over, no?
Well, apparently Argenti is taking what he said very seriously because he's speeding up, and shooting through the streets at a ridiculously fast pace (19)
He'll even casually ignore some people's gasps of surprise because they're on the sidewalk and perfectly safe!! They can watch him be cool from the sidelines.
Argenti's smooth and quick maneuvers do not even slow for a single minute, to say the least. Apparently, this the Hunger Racing Games (19)
Though, he finally does slow to something remotely sane when he sees another red light, because who knows how many of those he's run through today (4)? ]
[ Rutile's not giving up! These streets are his, and he's going to fly down them like he owns them. This time, he soars through those windy streets with practiced ease (17). This is so much fun. It reminds him of when he first got the hang of flying...
The turn onto the main thoroughfare does trip him up a bit, and a car honks at him as he cuts them off (10). Oops! Sorry buddy! Didn't mean for that.
However, miracle of miracles, just as he's about to reach the final stretch towards the beginning of the next lap...he's hit smack dab in the face with a red light (1), and he screeches to a full stop. What the fuck!!!! What the fuck!!! Through the cars and trucks passing over his vision he sees the redhead vanish into the distance... Er, stop at the red light a few streets ahead. ]
[ In the meanwhile, Argenti continues to enjoy his fortunate and skilled maneuvers through the streets even as his speed continues at a steady clip (11) once he begins to move again at something that is not certainly a full on stop.
Though, the red-haired male has been known to become overconfident before - he has his Knight training still instilled deep within him so that is not a common occurrence, but Argenti is only a man - and so once he picks up speed, he hardly sees the cones in time.
The red head has to veer sharply in order to evade them in time (9), and honestly, this little event is definitely enough to compromise his general speed going forward (3)
He lets out a small huff at this. Perfectionist-adjacent tendencies don't just die immediately even while he's traversing this new Path, after all.
But, all things considered, Argenti isn't too frustrated.
[ It's slow going once the light goes green, mostly because Rutile is generally nice and lets a guy merge in front of him (9) (shit, these roads are full of cars all of a sudden?!).
It's fine. Rutile is no perfectionist, he's not competitive, but he loves going fast and, he dare proclaims, is good at it? Not many people can keep up with him back home and he'll always jump at the chance to put that to good use.
All to say, once he's back at a comfortable speed (way too fast for a regular road), he navigates the streets like breathing (16). He'll catch up with Argenti...! He can hear the other motorcycle ahead...!
Which is only because Argenti is caught off-guard by the cones, as Rutile is (2). Is this construction site expanding while they're not looking?! ]
Wah!
[ He'll swerve, and gently manouver around them... At least there's two of them here.
Rutile loses out on another lap. How many more to go?! ]
[ Damn isn't that a question for the ages. As for Argenti, he's going at a decent clip once more, ensuring that any traffic jams are for the moment hardly much of an issue (12)
...But, what is the saying? One should not count their chickens before they are hatched.
By which I mean, there is suddenly a flight of birds swinging on low making Argenti let out a surprised yelp of surprise (5) as they dive too far close for comfort. What is this bad luck nonsense? Is Idrila punishing him for no longer assigning himself as one of the Honorclad?! He still is an ardent believer of all things beautiful and the Path of Beauty itself - how rude! ]
What is happening?!
[ His distraction is so high his speed has suffered...immensely (1)
This is Argenti's lot in life. But, it's fine.
The two have two remaining laps to go, provided both of their lucks start to shape up for the better... ]
[ They keep putting cones out in front of him while he's trying to get out of the mess. What is this, comedy hour?!
Rutile's basically walking his motorcycle out at this point (2), but he does eventually break free of cone hell. He gives a little huff once he can get rolling again, and starts mapping out another route for next lap. β]
Next time!
[ And he shoots off, going from zero to a hundred in essentially no time at all. The wind kicks up behind him (and probably knocks something over behind him in the process), and he zooms! Off he goes! (20)
He zips right past Argenti as he struggles, pumping a fist in the air. ]
Woohoo!
[ He's just happy he's finally going as fast as he wants, tbh.
His hundred-plus coast doesn't last forever, though. Eventually, he has to merge into heavier traffic, but that doesn't slow him down too much (15). He sees the lap marker just ahead of him. Maybe his last lap will keep him ahead, too!! ]
[ Nothing better timing than a superb showing of comedy hour~
Argenti himself is not discouraged upon seeing Rutile shoots off, going right past him, even.
If anything, his green eyes narrow, creasing in delight. A challenge is still a challenge! ]
I caution you on celebrating far too early, my friend!
[ The Knight shouts this as he speeds up, not letting the other man leave his sight completely (15)
Yes, that's right, even heavier traffic doesn't deter him in the slightest (12)
And, even with the other going full speed ahead, Argenti is already caught up swiftly. This last lap is bound to be nothing less than exciting, but who will be the one that claims it? (15)

[ His distraction is so high his speed has suffered...immensely (1)
This is Argenti's lot in life. But, it's fine.

Only time will tell. ]
