[ It's slow going once the light goes green, mostly because Rutile is generally nice and lets a guy merge in front of him (9) (shit, these roads are full of cars all of a sudden?!).
It's fine. Rutile is no perfectionist, he's not competitive, but he loves going fast and, he dare proclaims, is good at it? Not many people can keep up with him back home and he'll always jump at the chance to put that to good use.
All to say, once he's back at a comfortable speed (way too fast for a regular road), he navigates the streets like breathing (16). He'll catch up with Argenti...! He can hear the other motorcycle ahead...!
Which is only because Argenti is caught off-guard by the cones, as Rutile is (2). Is this construction site expanding while they're not looking?! ]
Wah!
[ He'll swerve, and gently manouver around them... At least there's two of them here.
Rutile loses out on another lap. How many more to go?! ]
[ Damn isn't that a question for the ages. As for Argenti, he's going at a decent clip once more, ensuring that any traffic jams are for the moment hardly much of an issue (12)
...But, what is the saying? One should not count their chickens before they are hatched.
By which I mean, there is suddenly a flight of birds swinging on low making Argenti let out a surprised yelp of surprise (5) as they dive too far close for comfort. What is this bad luck nonsense? Is Idrila punishing him for no longer assigning himself as one of the Honorclad?! He still is an ardent believer of all things beautiful and the Path of Beauty itself - how rude! ]
What is happening?!
[ His distraction is so high his speed has suffered...immensely (1)
This is Argenti's lot in life. But, it's fine.
The two have two remaining laps to go, provided both of their lucks start to shape up for the better... ]
[ They keep putting cones out in front of him while he's trying to get out of the mess. What is this, comedy hour?!
Rutile's basically walking his motorcycle out at this point (2), but he does eventually break free of cone hell. He gives a little huff once he can get rolling again, and starts mapping out another route for next lap. β]
Next time!
[ And he shoots off, going from zero to a hundred in essentially no time at all. The wind kicks up behind him (and probably knocks something over behind him in the process), and he zooms! Off he goes! (20)
He zips right past Argenti as he struggles, pumping a fist in the air. ]
Woohoo!
[ He's just happy he's finally going as fast as he wants, tbh.
His hundred-plus coast doesn't last forever, though. Eventually, he has to merge into heavier traffic, but that doesn't slow him down too much (15). He sees the lap marker just ahead of him. Maybe his last lap will keep him ahead, too!! ]
[ Nothing better timing than a superb showing of comedy hour~
Argenti himself is not discouraged upon seeing Rutile shoots off, going right past him, even.
If anything, his green eyes narrow, creasing in delight. A challenge is still a challenge! ]
I caution you on celebrating far too early, my friend!
[ The Knight shouts this as he speeds up, not letting the other man leave his sight completely (15)
Yes, that's right, even heavier traffic doesn't deter him in the slightest (12)
And, even with the other going full speed ahead, Argenti is already caught up swiftly. This last lap is bound to be nothing less than exciting, but who will be the one that claims it? (15)
