Why is everyone trying to bribe me with bread lately?
[ Not that she doesn't like bread. She's not actually an obligate carnivore. But, no — accepting food from Argenti at this juncture defeats the purpose of her mission. ]
No. You're having a meal with me. And I'm paying.
[ She delivers this last in a growl of absolute menace that says she knows his sins and they are not forgiven. Bastard. ]
[ Okay, well, Argenti isn't going to argue against that. Especially not when he has these poor, innocent baguettes on hand! ]
...Something tells me that you would not accept no for an answer.
[ He goes to place down the set of baguettes, tells the owner that he is done for now, and turns to Maika. ]
Perhaps everyone is trying to bribe you with bread because it is delicious? And I do wonder whyever you sound so...like this about it. Is there a place you have found that you have just simply decided to like very much?
[ That's right. Come along quietly or the baguettes get it. Maika shadows him at his task, watching with narrowed eyes to make sure he's not escaping out the backdoor to a different, more hidden volunteer location. ]
Commanding? Pissed off? [ He can take his pick on which "like this" it is. ] Would've thought you could make a guess by now. I hate having debts foisted on me.
[ This is a lie. Maika, broadly, considers it anyone else's damn fault if they give her something and get taken advantage of. But she's pretty sure it's a lie Argenti would believe, so she'll nudge him ungraciously towards the door. ]
[ NOT THE POOR BAGUETTES!! Anyway, Argenti does look kind of a little amused when she is watching like a hawk? Just because he escaped four or five times when he was in his shadow era doesn't mean that ]
I suppose I considered 'eager', but that wouldn't quite fit...
[ Argenti is joking. A little. ]
I did not realize you would consider what I did as an act of settling a debt, however.
[ Yeah, Argenti believes the lie wholesale, it's fine.png ]
As for your question...I've been proper re-introduced to the wonders of macaroni and cheese in multiple variations, various different kinds of sandwiches, cookies, and other things like rainbow pancakes, but far less memorable than the ones I have pointed out thus far. Though, depending on the flower, consuming those can also be healthy for you!
[ Sad no one tried to eat the rose petals he's throwing out but that was just joked around and not going to happen...or so far, anyway. It's not too late!! And he is being nudged towards the door, apparently... ]
It's the most literal kind of debt you can get. Don't be more dense than you have to be.
[ Although of course, she suspects the more she shows any kind of exasperation, the more that encourages him too. Now that he's settled her as "safe" in his mind, he really doesn't hesitate to rile her at all. Absolutely feline of him. ]
And don't even start. Kippa's already tried, with the flowers. They belong in tea and nowhere else.
[ But it sounds like he's not in the least bit picky, which doesn't shock her. And since neither is she... she'll just march them down the street and scan for the first thing that looks interesting. Or hilarious. She wonders how someone as prissy as he is would fare with messier food. ]
It's simply just interesting you phrased it as such, that is all.
I do appreciate that you are so considerate in your attempt to resolve it, though.
[ Though this kind of response is just original flavor Argenti. ]
Kippa is a dear friend of yours, right? Well, I will be certain not to make you consume them.
But, yes, I have nothing against meat nor seafood. So, if there is something or somewhere in particular that has either one of those, feel free to lead us there.
[ He won't object to it! He isn't exactly keeping a close lookout on his surroundings for this, after all. As for messier food...well, he's been to an Ihopesque place once, so that's the messiest he's gotten when it comes to such things. She can always find out, though. ]
I'm not letting you think you can get away with putting one over on me. That's all it is.
[ Appreciation, nothing. She can be as tsun as she wants about it now that she's pried him out of the safety of his volunteer position.
Anyway, perfect. The one upside of him having decided she's made of sunlight and good intentions? He's absolutely easier to trick into bullying. Maika's lips twitch in a smile that would be a dead giveaway if she let it grow any wider — ruthlessly, she shoulders him towards a nearby barbecue place. ]
Fine. There's a few places I've had my eye on. It's either this, or crab. You've got ten seconds to pick.
[ Or else her unyielding momentum will make the choice for him! ]
Putting one over you? That is quite the unique way of looking at it!
[ It's okay, Argenti can feel that level of tsundere from a whole 1000 miles away, and welcomes it wholeheartedly, given how jolly he is...as well as apparently kind of clueless about the tactics being used here. Some things never change (war. war never changes-)
He gets shouldered towards a place that smells of savory meats and draws his attention like a moth to a flame. He's getting hungry already... ]
Ten seconds to pick? Well, I shall make it easier on us both:
How about we continue to stay the course?
[ He kind of wonders what's on the menu already... ]
